Top Hat

Top Hat the movie was made by RKO in 1935 and is widley regarded as the greatest of the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance musicals. For the first time since the film it was decided that it would be brought to the stage in Londons West End.

All Scene All Props were contracted to build all the scenic elements of this production, designer Hildegard Bechtler's vision for the show was of classic art deco designs  incorporated into a highly versatile set that could transport the cast and audience to several locations around the world.

The Main body of the set consists of a 7 metre high revolving tower that housed six different rooms which can be reset at the interval to create a total 12 indivdual settings. In addition there are  four large stage trucks that track on and off stage to allow different setting to be acheived. In the grid we built six large tracking panels that could mask the scene changes as well as a mutitude of other flown items. The Show initially toured the UK in 10 trailers, we then rebuilt the whole show again to fit into the much more challenging space of the Aldwych Theatre.

This was a fantastic project for ASAP and has been a huge success at the box office!
